Overall, the respondents in the Migration-Mobility Survey expressed satisfaction or high satisfaction with their decision to migrate, as well as with their social, personal and family relationships at the time of the survey.

A significant majority of the participants (81%) reported a high level of satisfaction with their social relationships, with 30% even stating complete satisfaction (rating 10 on the scale, the maximum). Although there is limited variation among nationalities, migrants from Poland, Southern Europe (Spain and Italy in particular) as well as North America displayed a slightly lower level of satisfaction compared to migrants from non-European or German-speaking countries.

Approximately 30% of the survey sample expressed complete satisfaction with their decision to migrate, while only 1% reported being not at all satisfied. Overall, 67% of the respondents were very satisfied with their decision (rating between 8 and 10 on the scale). Similarly, there was minimal variation observed across different groups based on education levels and motives for migrating.

Note on methodology: These figures are taken from the Migration-Mobility Survey, conducted in fall 2022 on a population of persons born abroad and with foreign citizenship who have moved to Switzerland in the last 16 years. To be included in the sample population, respondents had to be between 24 and 64 years of age at the time of the survey, and at least 18 years of age on their arrival in Switzerland. 7,206 people replied to the full questionnaire, either online or by telephone.

The question asked: On a scale from 0 (not at all satisfied) to 10 (completely satisfied) can you indicate your degree of satisfaction for each of the following points?

– With your personal, social and family relationships
– With your decision to move to Switzerland

Note: The “country of origin” was as declared by the respondent. In most cases, it was the same as their country of nationality or one of their countries of nationality.
